The Power of Words

It is not much said, but one of many reasons why believers are into all sort chaos today could be traced back to a problem of speaking. We lack the understanding on how powerful the words we speak carry, so we speak as though we are ones without authority in our mouths. Looking back at history in the original creation in Genesis, we see that Man was the only creature made in the image and likeness of God, meaning you are not just another face in the crowd. God designed and crafted you purposefully to be exactly in his form and figure. There is no reason whatsoever to feel bad about yourself or talk yourself into inferiority and depression.

It is amazing how God literally spoke the universe into existence. I mean, this is by far off our mental faculties or minds could ever apprehend but for our sake, let’s take a moment to imagine what happened when God said “let there be light”. What a God! More than anything else, every day of our lives, His glory and magnificence is constantly speaking right from the rising and falling of the sun, generation to generation…never stops.

A great Man of God once said half of our problems is solved when we understand that life is spiritual. Meaning, beyond what we can see and feel, we must understand that Life is powered by spiritual energy and one way this energy can be activated is by speaking. I do not know much about magic or the things they give themselves to. But what I do know is that these people are in the negative, they have connived with demon spirits who have the ability to influence the physical realm by raising alters and making enchantments, casting spells on things and people. In other words, they make declarations and utter words that are capable of making available another level of reality manifest into the physical because words hold power that can shape realities.

Do you know that no one speaks to you more than you speak to yourself? If you are married, not even your spouse who is closest to you speaks to you more than you do to yourself. Not a second passes by without you thinking about something and I’d like to think of thoughts as unspoken words. Sometimes, this follows through even to our sleep. In fact, before you step out the door to get groceries, make cookies or basically whatever you intend to do, you must first have thought of it or said it in your heart. Perhaps, you haven’t given it a thought but situations speak to us, life circumstances speak to us, it might be some health, relationship or marital challenge, a situation that may require financial assistance and so on. Sometimes these things have a way of talking us down and out of God’s best for our lives. So we allow ourselves to wallow in shame, guilt and pain because one way or the other we have failed to meet up with certain expectations. But that not ought to be so, we must learn to talk back at our circumstances and challenges and not just talking back based on what we feel but based on the word of God.

Even as believers, we can be enslaved by the things we say to and about ourselves (Proverbs 6:2). The bible speaking says Life and death are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). In John 6:63 He said to His disciples the words that I speak to you they are spirit and they are life. Concerning life, the bible said to us in Deuteronomy 30:14 “No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it” further verse 19 it says “This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live”. In 1st Peter 3:10, the bible says “For, whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech”. So we can literally see a direct relationship between the outcome of our lives and the words we speak.  This then tells us that your life becomes a product of words, information that resides within your heart. You can change your life by the words you speak. That is the reason why the bible said to guard your heart with diligence for out of it comes the issue of life. Beloved, your words have creative dimensions attached to them it’s important that we be careful the things we say to ourselves, situations and so on. Learn to exalt God’s word above everything else.
